Original hard-rockers Night Below are scheduled to rock the Melody Inn on August 19th with fellow local rock bands Cease and Resist and Wayward Pilot. Night Below's first two singles were released this year - Afterglow, with its Radar Love-esque driving rhythm, and the politically-charged rock anthem Politicians, Inc. Although the two tracks are quite different, there's a consistent style that the guys create that reminds us of the Toadies meets Black Sabbath, and maybe there's even a little Riot mixed in there.
We're excited to see them paired with Cease and Resist and Wayward Pilot. Both bands also fall into the hard rock category, but they bring their own styles to the table. Cease and Resist have a post-grunge sound combined with the flavor of 80's hard rock (think Stone Temple Pilots, Manic Street Preachers, Guns n Roses). Wayward Pilot brings a 80s/90s pop-rock/indie vibe to the table (Lemonheads, the Replacements) that I think really goes well with the other two groups.
If you haven't been to the Melody Inn (known colloquially as "The Mel") you're really missing out on some of the best and most original music in Indy. The Melody Inn has been around since 1935 and has been a mainstay for original music, epecially in the punk, metal and hard rock scene. Hell, until a few years ago covers weren't even allowed!
All in all, we think this is a show that you really shouldn't miss if you have the chance to go! The show starts at 12AM and goes until 3AM. Get in early and catch Hillbilly Happy Hour starting at 7PM, grab a few PBRs and support local music at a historic venue! Check out Night Below's two new singles and details about the event below!
